Achievements since April 2018
Collaboration with Regional Tourism Associations and Organizations:
Cree Outfitting and Tourism Association:
My Mistissini 2034: Cultural Camp
The Cultural Camp will be an amazing cultural space that can act as a hub for tourism economic activity in Mistissini by implementing a phased approach to development. To ensure economic and operational sustainability, this project will employ a ‘grow as you go’ model, where capital developments, policies & procedures, and tourism products are initiated gradually and warranted by proper research, planning and market demand. The revitalized 2018 business plan will incorporate a Community run social enterprise model to ensure financial sustainability and long term growth.
Camp Louis Jolliet Osprey Lodge Infrastructure Upgrades:
The Cree Nation of Mistissini (CNM) owns Camp Louis-Jolliet located at the mouth of the Rupert River on Lake Mistassini, the largest freshwater lake in the Province of Quebec. In 2014, CNM had the opportunity to acquire the assets of Osprey Lodge (Aigle Pêcheur) to complete its outfitting operations on Lake Mistassini and to benefit from the synergy created by the acquisition.
CNM through its Landholding Corporation own the assets of the camp (buildings and equipment), a separate company was created to operate the camps, which is Mistassini Outfitting Camps (MOC). MOC has its own board of directors that oversee the operations of the camp on behalf of CNM.
The Cree Nation of Mistassini intends to harmonize the development of the two fishing camps in a sustainable manner. MOC intends to operate the two camps profitably, provide employment opportunities for the members of the community of Mistassini, and offer anglers and corporate clients a world class angling experience in Eeyou Istchee.
